We proudly display the Holy Trinity emblem, which serves as a powerful statement of our identity as a community church for all.
The inverted triangle represents the Holy Trinity - God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit. It symbolizes Godhead descending, a theological concept referring to the manifestation of the divine presence coming down to earth from a heavenly realm.
Also, the inverted triangle was used during the 1930s and '40s to identify one who was an “invert," an offensive now obsolete term describing gender non-conformity. Nazis used this symbol to identify queers like the Star of David was used to identify Jews.
The shield reflects Psalm 28:7, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in God and God helps me. My heart leaps for joy and with my song I praise God.”
The red triangle reminds us of the sacrifice of the brave souls who now surround us like a cloud of witnesses. The central purple cross etched in gold signifies that we are centered in Jesus Christ. Purple designates a passionate relationship with Jesus Christ.
The three gold rings also signify the Trinity. For our church, it is the Trinity of Love: Love God, Love Neighbor and Love of Self, echoing the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The comma, a longstanding mark of the United Church of Christ, symbolizes that God is still speaking and God’s work is ongoing – not finished. It represents the belief that God’s story and message continue not just through scripture and historical tradition but through new experiences, people and ideas. Never place a period where God placed a comma.
